*** 98-09 Ranger crossmember install ***
This is the install of the latest version of the DHP transmission crossmember for 98-09 Rangers. This part is designed to be level with the bottom of the Ranger frame.
The first thing to do in this install is jack the truck up and put it on some jack stands. Never work under any vehicle without jack stands. The nest thing to do is get the tools you will ned for this install. You will need: 13mm socket, 18mm socket, 3/4 socket, 3/4 wrench flat head. You will also need a few zipties.

Start by putting a jack under the transmission. Use a block of wood or other soft object under the pan on auto trans. Next you will need to remove the 2 bolts on the transmission mount that go into the stock crossmember. You will also need to remove the 2 bolts holding the trans mount to the trans. This is easier to install with the mount off the trans.

Now jack up the trans until it touches the floor of the truck and remove the trans mount.
Next you will need to remove the bolts holding the stock crossmember to the outside of the frame. These are 13mm and there should be 3 per side. On some trucks the wiring passes across the crossmember and back onto the frame. Make sure you pull the wire from its clips and then remove the trans mount and then removestock crossmember.

Now notice the C shaped groove in the Ranger frame. Thats what holds the new DHP crossmember. This is why it only needs one bolt per side. On the left side you will see the fuel pump and the fuel line along with some wiring. Remove these from the plastic clips they are in and push them up out of the way for now. If the fuel pump is bolted in, take the bolt out and move it forward to the next hole.

Next install the new crossmember into the groove in the frame with the tabs on each end and the trans mount plate facing forward. This is done by angling the crossmember up in the front. It should slide right up into place easily. As soon as you get the crossmember into place you can install the bolts in the ends of the crossmember. The bolts go thru the slotted holes in the Ranger frame. Leave these loose for now.

You can now put the trans mount back on the trans and screw in the bolts. Leave these a little loose as well. Next you can lower the trans gently and slowly down until the trans mount bolts come down thru the crossmember. no not put all the weight down onto the mount yet.

Now you can tighten the bolts on the sides of the crossmember. These are stover locknuts so they will not even back off while driving. As soon as these are tight you can then lower the trans down onto the crossmember and tighten the rest of the bolts.
Now that you have all the bolts tight you can finish the wiring and fuel lines. I prefer to bend the fuel line a little to straighten it out and I then wrap it with a piece of rubber from a heater or other hose and I ziptie it to the frame and I also use some smaller ties to wrap it.

Thats pretty much it. You have now installed the DHP trans crossmember and you should have alot less dragging under your ride now. Enjoy your DHP part and tell all your freinds. Thanks for purchasing DHP products.
