I reopened BYC as Dallas Hotrod parts because I could not get the old domain name I used to have. I like the new name better and it fits better with what we do now. If you have an old BYC order or have any questions about BYC parts, have a BYC part that has failed or needs small parts, please feel free to contact me at Mike@Dallashotrodparts.com or call me at 214-498-4840
All you peeps on SSM know that Im still banned from there so any new info will be here on my blog page. Anyone that had a BYC order has gotten parts or is in line to get some. If not then contact me and lets get something going.
DHP will cater to the bagged and dropped truck scene. We continue to develop new products and come up with new designs for older parts. If you have something in mind then hit us up.
We will also offer new items that nobody offers as of right now. These items will be tube arm conversions for Ranger and fullsize Ford trucks that came originally with I beams. This is sort of like a mustang II setup that bolts into the stock Ford frame. This setup will have DHP tube arms for bags that will lay out the front of any I beam Ranger or fullsize Ford from 1960 thru 1996.
This is one of the things we were working on when we closed. We were also redesigning all our import arms to use a weld in tube in the frame
that allows for easy installation as well as a street rod looking tube upper and lower arm that eliminates strut rods on all import trucks.
Ive also noticed that link setups (2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 links) are the future of the parts industry. We will offer durable heavy duty link sets that can be ordered in any length. We will also continue to offer watts linkage kits. our latest watts link kit is easy to install and price competitive with any on the market.
Why did BYC close?...
1. Too many orders too fast. We had no excess capital and no reserve to be able to build parts fast enough. We also did not have enough help in the shop. Most of the time it was me and my dad building parts with some help from my friends and family.
2. No modern time saving equipment to help streamline the manufacturing process. I needed a lathe, automatic bender, press and a few other time saving machines to help me meet the demand of volume of orders from the public and especially wholesale customers.
3. Selling too many parts wholesale to major distributors such as SD, SSC, CCC and FBI. They were good and willing customers and we just couldnt
keep up with the sheer number of orders. We appreciate everything they did for us and we are very sorry that we could not fullfill their orders fast enough.
4. Too many vehicles in the shop. (8 at one time) We had no time to work on them and rented enough space to keep them all inside when we only needed
half or less of that space. Rent and overhead was a BIG factor in BYC closing. We were renting 4000 sq ft. when it can be done in less than 1000 sq ft.
5. The sheer quickness of growth at BYC overwhelmed me. I should have waited 6 more months before going to BYC fulltime. I would have had more capital to expand. I should also have gotten back to basics faster. I was building parts according to each order coming in. What I should have done was build about 5 sets of one part, then make 5 sets of the next thing. That way I could have saved time setting up for the next item. If I had done this sooner I may have gotten BYC out of the hole it was in.
6. I also had about 16 or so sets of S-10 arms that were made the wrong length. by this I mean that I made a set of shorter lower arms custom for a customer and forgot to reset the jig to stock length. I then had to pay shipping both ways on returns and make all those sets to replace the ones I shipped. Also on the S-10 arms, I made several sets with 3/16 balljoint plates that when stressed they bent or broke around the weld near the tubes. 1/4" thick plates were supposed to be used there and I had to also pay shipping both ways on those.
All these things combined to cause BYC to close. But Im not a quitter, so I decided to make things right with every customer of BYC. I will and I have already started doing this and will continue until every backorder customer is sent the parts they ordered. This is now complete with the exception of an order here or there.
What are we gonna do about all this?
1. I will start by only building parts in my spare time and maintain a fulltime job. I have a good job now and I will continue to work there fulltime.
2. I will build and sell parts ONLY until I have space to do installs and service.
3. I will redesign all my parts with the knowledge of more than 15 years of designing and building suspension items, 25 years of building vehicles from the frame up, designing and working on all kinds of vehicles from go carts to cars and trucks, to race cars that go in a straight line, or circle, to large class 8 trucks, tractors and equipment such as Caterpiller loaders, dozers and track loaders. I will combine this knowledge with everything I have learned about suspension and all of this will shape the future of DHP.
