Watts Link Choices

 






There are 3 basic styles of Watts Linkages we sell at DHP.

Whats the difference?



1. AXLE MOUNT



The most popular watts link is the axle mount. The "axle mount" basically means there is a U or V shaped bar that mounts to the axle tubes. There are 4 tabs, 2 on each side that weld to the axle. The U or V shaped bar bolts to those tabs and then the center crank bolts to that U or V shaped bar. This is the most universal of all the Watts Linkages we sell at DHP. They come with long tabs and will fit just about anything. They only need about 7" of clearance behind the center of the rearend. We make them in regular duty, heavy duty and super heavy duty. I generally would install the regular ones on minitrucks or fullsize that will not be towing. The heavy duty is better suited to a fullsize truck that will see some towing. The super heavy duty is generally made for a dually.




2. REAR COVER MOUNT



The second most popular watts link style is the Rear Cover Mount. This basically means there are plates that bolt to the rear gear cover of your rearend. You unbolt 3 top bolts and 3 bottom bolts and mount the pieces there. You dont even need to drain the axle or remove the over to install the rear gear cover watts links. They also come with long tabs so they will mount to pretty much any frame style.




3. CHASSIS MOUNTED PIVOT



The third and most little known watts link is the Chassis Mounted Pivot. Its also called the Frame Mounted Pivot watts link. This basically means that the pivot, center crank and most of the moving parts mount to an adjustable crossbar that mounts to the frame. Then the crossbars mount to the axle. This is the style that most muscle cars run. It requires less room and it also adds less unsprung weight to the axle.
